Families have a variety of needs that they require their vehicles to be able to handle, and as a result it's often difficult to find just the right car. To make things easier, U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of the Best Cars for Families, recognizing automobiles that offer the quality, space and special features that most people need in their rides.

"We created the Best Cars for Families awards to make it easier for parents to find cars, SUVs and vans that will help make their lives easier," said Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor of the magazine. "With such a broad range of award winners, any family can find the best car for their lifestyle."

Winners were divided up based on 19 different categories, including compact cars, minivans, midsize vehicles and more. The rankings were calculated with the help of user reviews, safety, reliability, scheduled maintenance and critic response, among other things.

All of the recognized vehicles were from the 2013 model year. Automakers that had several selections appear on the list include Chevrolet, Toyota, Ford and Honda, while other winners include a range of luxury automobiles like Audi, Lexus, Acura and Lincoln.
