Toyota to bring some fun to Super Bowl commercials

When you sit down to watch the Super Bowl this Feb. 2, there's a good chance you're going to be looking forward to the commercials as much as the game itself. That's only natural, especially with high-profile guests like the Muppets making an appearance behind the wheel of a popular ride.

This year, the Muppets will be promoting their upcoming movie, "Muppets Most Wanted," from the seats of a 2014 Toyota Highlander. They'll be joined by actor Terry Crews, who is currently on the award-winning sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." While Crews generally plays characters with over-the-top personalities, he'll be of a more boring variety in this commercial - until the Muppets get a hold of him, that is.

"Our game-day spot shows how Toyota Highlander puts the 'fun' in function," said Jack Hollis, vice president of Toyota Division Marketing. "Toyota vehicles are built to last and can even endure the most boisterous Muppets, a former NFL player as well as a center console full of chickens."

The ad may not touch on the many other benefits of the Highlander - or even mention aspects like scheduled maintenance or fuel efficiency - but the automaker hopes it will be enough to get people talking about the new ride.
