Toyota creates a SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired vehicle

Toyota has joined forces with Nickelodeon to create a 2014 Highlander inspired by one of the most popular children's shows on television. Taking its cues from SpongeBob SquarePants, the all-new Toyota Highlander features a custom design based on the cartoon character

"We are thrilled to partner with Toyota to produce this truly unique SpongeBob SquarePants-themed Highlander," said Pam Kaufman, chief marketing officer for the Nickelodeon Group. "Through the 'Happy Driving!' program, SpongeBob fans across the nation will have a chance to interact with SpongeBob in a whole new, four-wheeled way."

There'll be no missing the vehicle, as the bright paint job features the cartoon character drawn across the front and sides of the car, all set against a turquoise background. According to AutoEvolution, the interior is similarly designed, with yellow and white leather seats, as well as the character printed on headrests.

Officially unveiled July 13 at SpongeBob Day at the San Diego Padres game, the Highlander will now embark on a seven-city tour of the U.S. as part of Toyota's "Happy Driving!" campaign. Each of the events will have character meet-and-greets for young children, as well as information about the Highlander's features and vehicle maintenance for older drivers.
