Survey lists auto industry as most contentious

As consumers, we've all had a dispute with someone over money and services rendered. The Consumer Federation of America tracks these disputes annually, and compiles the data into a survey that examines which industries are more likely to cause problems between merchant and buyer.

The top of the list was the auto industry, with a number of different disputes listed, according to the San Francisco Gate. False advertising, towing disputes and lemon vehicles were all complaints among those who cited the auto industry. One of the other common problems was with vehicle repairs.

This highlights the importance of working with reputable service technicians who will give a thorough vehicle inspection. You should always trust your mechanic and be sure that you're getting a fair deal. An easy way to do this is to put in some research beforehand. Search for Better Business Bureau complaints or talk to others who have used that mechanic in the past.

It's true that the automotive industry might be ripe for disputes, but this doesn't mean we should stop getting our cars repaired altogether. Those who put in the time to find a reputable and skilled mechanic will likely be glad they did.
