For those looking to drive on one of the more beautiful roads in the country, the Ohio River Scenic Byway is a strong choice. Stretching through Illinois, Southern Indiana and Ohio, this road follows the Ohio River through charming small towns.

There's something for everyone along this stretch of highway. Nature lovers will appreciate the various campsites and opportunities for activities like canoeing. History buffs will enjoy the numerous museums and historical sites located along the road. There's also an eclectic mix of restaurants, antique stores and a number of wineries.

One place that drivers may want to deviate from the road is when they get to Jefferson County, Indiana. The town of Madison here has quite a bit to see and do, but those who cross over to the other side of the river will find themselves in Louisville, one of the largest cities in Kentucky. It's easy to kill a few days here soaking up all the attractions before crossing over again and continuing on the Ohio River Scenic Byway.
