As the world gears up to celebrate Earth Day this April 22, even automakers are doing their part to protect the environment. Kelley Blue Book recently compiled a list of the 10 Best Green Cars of 2013 to clue drivers in as to what the most eco-friendly vehicles on the market are.

Some of the best-selling cars in the U.S. are now these environmentally friendly vehicles, and as an increasing number of drivers look toward the fuel efficient models, the market is growing more competitive. Kelley Blue Book found that the 2013 Nissan Leaf stood apart from the rest, however, as the car offers great fuel economy and easy vehicle maintenance at a relatively low price.

"The 2013 Nissan Leaf marks a turning point in the electric vehicle movement with increased content at a reduced price that makes the vehicle competitive with traditional cars in its segment," said Erik Gottfried, director of electric vehicle sales and marketing for Nissan. "We're seeing buyers diversify beyond early adopters, and, as the global leader in electric vehicles, Nissan is committed to providing affordable zero-emissions options for the mass market."

Other models recognized by Kelley Blue Book include the Tesla Model S, Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid and Toyota Avalon Hybrid.
