Large new vehicles remain popular in the US

As 2013 draws to a close, many organizations throughout the auto industry are taking a look at the most popular vehicles from the past year. AutoTrader.com recently compiled its list of what new cars shoppers are most interested in, and the results provide a glimpse at the country's most searched rides.

Topping the list of the most popular rides was the Ford F-150. This was part of a larger trend of full-size pickups dominating the market, as models like the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also landed in the top five best-selling automobiles. The top 20 list was loaded with similar large trucks, including the Ford F-250 and F-350, the Ram 2500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

"The full-size truck segment is historically the most popular vehicle segment on our site, but it grew this year to garner more than 20 percent share of shopper interest," said Isabelle Helms of AutoTrader.com. "We believe this is due to a combination of growth in the housing and construction sectors and the number of models that were all-new for the 2013 and 2014 model years."

Although large trucks may require some extra attention to vehicle maintenance, especially with regard to the engine system and fuel economy, they offer many advantages that drivers love. Towing capabilities, dependability and excellent comfort are just a few of the reasons large pickup trucks are so popular.
