Winter is coming to a close, and when the weather turns warmer you may want to hit the open road for a breath of fresh spring air. Drivers living in or near the Chicago area of Illinois can head to the famed Lake Shore Drive to get their automotive kicks. Travel and Leisure named this road one of its top scenic drives in the U.S., as it not only wraps around the bustling city of Chicago, but affords a magnificent view of Lake Michigan.

Take your car in for some auto maintenance and an oil change before you head to this 26-mile road to make sure the trip is a safe one. No one wants to deal with a breakdown when they are trying to enjoy a scenic drive.

Traveling down this road is perfect for Chicago newcomers to see the Midwestern city's most prominent buildings. It may also look familiar even to first-time drivers, as it has been featured in many movies. The road can be seen in When Harry Met Sally, The Blues Brothers, National Lampoon's Vacation and even Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
