Kelley Blue Book has announced the winners of its 2012 Brand Image Awards, which are based on responses from drivers who fill out the company's Car Brand Perception Survey. The awards track how the general public feels about certain brands, regardless of whether that opinion is rooted in fact.

"Image isn't everything, but it is more than enough to get shoppers into the store, and that's half the battle for automakers and their dealers," said Jack Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for KBB. "With standout vehicles, memorable marketing and positive word of mouth, the winners of Kelley Blue Book's 2012 Brand Image Awards have secured enviable positions in the minds of in-market shoppers."

Ford was the big winner, taking home four awards, including both Best Interior and Best Exterior design. Mercedes-Benz repeated for the fifth time as the Most Prestigious automaker, while Honda nabbed awards for Best Value and Most Trusted, mainly thanks to its history of reliable vehicles.

While a brand may have a reputation for offering reliability, no car is immune to mechanical issues. Fortunately, drivers who keep up with their auto maintenance can ensure that they avoid the more expensive car repairs that may pop up.
