If you are planning a vacation to Hawaii, you might want to consider renting a car and checking out the Hana Highway in Maui. This 52-mile drive takes you from Kahului to Hana on what may be one of the most scenic roads in America, according to Travel and Leisure.

GoHawaii.com reports there are 620 curves and 59 different bridges on this highway. It takes at least 4 hours to get from one end to the other since some of the roads and bridges are a bit narrow. The road takes you across cliffs overlooking the ocean, through the rainforest and past many different waterfalls. If you are so inclined, there are plenty of rest stops along the way to stretch your legs and take in the surroundings.

At the end of the drive, you will find yourself in the small coastal town of Hana. There are souvenir shops, restaurants and beaches for visitors to explore and enjoy. Author James Michener once described local Hamoa Beach as the most beautiful beach in the Pacific, according to the news source.

Even though you'll probably be driving a rental car along this highway, it is still wise to take a few moments to perform a quick auto maintenance checklist. Test the brakes, check the air pressure in the tires and take the car for a test drive around Kahului before venturing down the winding Hana Highway.
