The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular trucks in the U.S., but now it can also claim that it's the winner of the most recent Light-Duty Pickup Truck Challenge. It narrowly edged out the Ram 1500, among other models, earning praise for its performance in a series of extensive tests.

PickupTrucks.com put six of the top trucks up against each other in the competition: the most recent models of the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra. Each automobile was judged based on the value it offered, as well as the quality of interior and exterior, acceleration and brakes, hill climbing and fuel economy.

"As the economy continues to rebound, pickup trucks are again becoming major players in the market, with pickups making big gains so far in 2013," said Mark Williams, editor of PickupTrucks.com. "Light-duty trucks are among the most popular best-selling vehicles, and that's why we felt this was such an important group of trucks to test to help shoppers as they navigate through the many available options."

At the end of the competition, the Ford F-150 stood apart from the rest. USA Today reports that while the Ram may have been the judge's favorite selection, the Ford model exhibited top performance and vehicle maintenance that drivers will appreciate.
