An auction of rare Ferrari items has raised more than $2 million for charity.
After several earthquakes rocked the northern part of Italy in early May, the exotic car manufacturer mobilized to raise money to help those affected. The automaker put together an auction of various rare Ferrari memorabilia in order to support victims of the quake.
The big-ticket item was the Ferrari 599XX track car, which ultimately sold for $1.75 million. Additional items from the auction sold for nearly $600,000, for a grand total of $2.3 million.
"I knew I could count on the big-heartedness of the Ferraristi but they've still managed to surprise me once again," said Luca di Montezemolo, chairman of Ferrari. "I would like to thank all the clients, collectors and enthusiasts that did their bit. Their bids have sent out a message of warmth and solidarity to the people in our region affected by this tragedy."
