Edmunds chooses Honda as brand with Best Retained Value

Edmunds has revealed its 2012 Best Retained Value Awards, which looks at data from used car transactions to determine the models that hold onto their value the longest.

This year's best automaker, repeating from 2011, was Honda. The brand also won in the luxury category for its Acura nameplate, toppling last year's winner Lexus. Models like the Civic, Odyssey, CR-V and Acura MDX were all named the best in their segment in terms of long-term value.

"Honda has long had a reputation for dependable used vehicles, and that is reflected in today's booming used car market," said Joe Spina, director of remarketing at Edmunds.com. "Honda's family of vehicles continues to expand the company's status as one of the best values available to car buyers today."

When it comes to retaining value, keeping up with scheduled maintenance is extremely important. Buyers don't want to have to deal with auto repairs when they purchase a used car, so those planning on selling or trading in their vehicle should make sure their car is in top condition to ensure they get the best price.
