Could Volkswagen be trying to regain its hippie reputation?

An MSN blogger is reporting that a new version of the iconic Volkswagen Microbus may be hitting the road soon.

The car will be a powertrain-driver vehicle with modern and electric functions, according to blogger Joshua Condon.

He states in the post that the Bulli was shown originally at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show and despite many people's initial scoffs, the car seems to be useful - not just for hippies, either.

"While it's easy to dismiss a production run of the minibus as a stunt, or a throwback vehicle for nostalgic hippies, it's actually quite a cool-looking - and for larger urban-based families, one could imagine, practical - vehicle," suggests Condon.

Unfortunately, the blogger also states that another automobile website confirmed the Bulli wouldn't come packed with a 113-horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion battery that can reportedly charge fully in under and hour.

Condon, however, says that this might be jumping the gun - after all, the Microbus was a hippie treasure, why not appeal to that market by offering a car with no gasoline?
