Chevy to recall 2012 Sonic for brake pads and windshield washer systems

August 30, 2012 12:00 AM

Sonic subcompact cars made from May 5, 2011 through February 24, 2012 may have a defect causing the windshield wiper hose to separate from the washer fluid reservoir. Should the hose separate, it could impede the driver from being able wash the windshield for optimal visibility.

General Motors will notify owners of the problem beginning around September 7 to repair the hose disconnection issue. Dealers will attend to the problem free of charge. Around 44,000 vehicles may be affected by this issue.

This is not the first problem the Sonic has encountered, earlier in the year the model was subject to a recall addressing the brake system, according to Inside Line. Certain models were recalled because the front brake inner or outer pad could have been missing. Chevy Sonic owners may want to check to see if their vehicle may need brake service.

The news provider reports that at the time, GM asserted there were no known crashes or injuries associated with either defect.
