The Car Care Council has deemed October to be Fall Car Care Month, as this is the best time to prepare for the impending winter season. Executive director of the CCC, Rich White, recently told The Northern Light about some things that drivers could do to prep their car for colder weather.
"A thorough inspection of your vehicle this month will go a long way toward ensuring safety and dependability when temperatures drop and wet winter weather strikes," White told the news source. "A routine maintenance program also makes financial sense, extending useful vehicle life and helping avoid costly repairs down the road."
It's best to take your vehicle in to a certified auto maintenance expert, who can ensure that every aspect of the vehicle is checked thoroughly. In particular, you need to pay attention to your brakes this time of year, as things can definitely get slippery when the snow starts to fall.
It might also be a good time to look into tire replacements. This is another crucial aspect of winter driving, and it may be time to rotate tires or perhaps look into some snow tires.
Other tips recommended by the CCC include checking the battery, wipers, lights, exhaust system and any critical fluids.
