It's not too late to winterize your car

You may currently be dealing with frigid weather and forecasts of snow, and if you were on top of your car's scheduled maintenance, you've likely already taken steps to winterize the vehicle. However, some drivers may have let this task fall by the wayside. Still, it's not too late to take steps to get an automobile ready for the next portion of the winter season.

The Car Care Council recommends all drivers get an auto tune up to prepare a vehicle for future weather, especially in light of the polar vortex, which brought freezing temperatures to much of the U.S.

"Subzero temperatures can stress out a vehicle, as well as its driver," said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council. "The recent record low temperatures are a harsh reminder to be car care aware. During this break from the cold and snow, motorists should invest a little time to check over their vehicles so they have one less worry when arctic temperatures strike again."

Drivers should be sure to check that all interior lights are working properly, as well as headlights and taillights. These exterior parts also need to be aimed correctly. Visibility can also be improved by switching to winter wiper blades and cold-weather washer fluid, which may be more effective at clearing off a windshield.
