Camaro tops the list of most-stolen sports cars

No one wants to return to a spot where a car was once parked only to find that a vehicle has been stolen. Unfortunately, that is a situation that many have to deal with, and drivers of certain cars may have to contend with this issue more than others. The National Insurance Crime Bureau recently released a report that focused on what vehicles are the most popular with car thieves, and the findings shed some light on what criminals are looking for.

According to the study, which looked at all vehicles reported as stolen from 2009 through 2012, the Chevrolet Camaro is the most commonly stolen sports car. The vehicle was unlawfully taken 1,509 times in the four-year period, which far outnumbered the second-place automobile. That dubious honor went to the Ford Mustang, which was stolen 980 times.

Other vehicles rounding out the top five include the Dodge Challenger, Porsche Panamera and Audi A5.

There are some instances where car theft may be unavoidable, but drivers should be doing everything in their power to decrease the odds this situation happens to them. For example, taking your vehicle to an auto repair franchise for regular vehicle maintenance can ensure that your alarm system is in top working condition.
