BMW 3-Series wins sport sedan challenge

It can be difficult to select which sport sedan provides the best bang for your buck, which is why Cars.com teamed up with USA Today and MotorWeek to find the best sport sedan. In the end, the BMW 3-Series stood apart from the pack as the best pick, beating out five other competitors.

According to the BMW Blog, the vehicles were judged by a panel of experts and actual car shoppers. The 3-Series was found to have the best combination of performance, fuel efficiency and interior space, all for a price under $46,000 for new or used automobiles.

Tests consisted of driving the cars for 180 miles across twisting roads, highways and other streets to determine mileage. There was also track tests and traditional shopper testing, which consisted of real shoppers examining the cargo space, seating, vehicle maintenance and other features to determine the best choice.

"After completing the challenge, it was easy to see why the sport sedan class has long been ruled by the BMW," said Patrick Olsen, editor-in-chief of Cars.com. "For years, they have set the bar for other automakers to produce entry-level sport sedans that are similarly equipped. This segment has grown into one of the most popular offerings by luxury automakers because of their impressive feature set and driveability at a reasonable price."
