Families have to approach the car-buying process with a bit more care than other drivers. With the need for cargo space, top-notch safety features and plenty of space for a growing family, they often face an uphill climb when it comes to shopping around for vehicles. AAA recently released a list of the top automobiles for expanding families to help motorists find their next ride.

"There are many options available for families needing extra storage space or room for additional passengers," said David Bennett, manager for AAA. "A new vehicle is a major financial investment for many families. By taking steps to be an educated and informed buyer, you can avoid having to replace your vehicle sooner than expected."

AAA selected the very best vehicles across several car types, including crossovers and SUVs, sedans and minivans. The Toyota Highlander and Subaru Outback were two of the top options in the first category thanks to their spacious interiors and customizable qualities. Similarly, the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Town & Country set themselves apart from the rest of the minivan segment, largely because of entertainment features, cargo space and low average prices.

Among sedans, the Honda Accord, Ford Taurus and Hyundai Sonata stood out from the rest. Each of these mid-size vehicles offers an option that requires low vehicle maintenance while also providing comfortable seats and an impressive amount of trunk room.
