A jazzy playlist for those days when you have to drive in the rain

March 1, 2011 12:00 AM

Rainy days can be such a drag, and nobody likes driving on those slick roads, but a jazzy playlist could be just the ticket to keep the speed down and the mood relaxed. We're talking late night in the day.

It doesn't have to be something instrumental, in fact it's probably better if it's not. No one needs to be lulled to sleep by jazz music... even it's a killer song.

Artists like Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald are a must. Respectively, their best songs to include are "I'll Be Seeing You," "Whatever Lola Wants," "Summertime (with Fitzgerald)" and finally,"Stormy Weather" - obviously a must on any rainy day drive. "Feeling Good" is a classic by Nina Simone that should be include in this group as well.

"Georgia on my Mind" is also a really great slow jazz ditty by Ray Charles. Segue into the present tense with Norah Jones collaboration with Ray on "Here We Go Again," followed by Kermit Ruffin's "Sunny Side of the Street" just for some irony and a faster tempo.

Finish off with some Michael Buble classics and a song or two from Amy Winehouse's "Frank" album... it's surprisingly rainy day jazzy.
