A history of cars at the Academy Awards

Cars have a long history in Hollywood, as there have been many classic movies that featured memorable automobiles. In fact, some movies in which cars played a considerable role have even struck gold on Oscar night, according to Forbes.

At the top of the list are three Best Picture winners that featured highlighted vehicles in some way. "The French Connection" included a gripping car chase with an elevated train, "Rain Man" prominently featured a convertible Buick Roadmaster and many of the most famous scenes in "Driving Miss Daisy" took place in a vehicle.

Some films with prominent cars were nominated or took home lesser awards. "Back to the Future," "Thelma and Louise" and "The Graduate" all involve vehicles at one point or another. And who can forget the malfunctioning Volkswagen Bus that the family piles into in "Little Miss Sunshine?" Some films that have been entirely car-centric, such as the classic "Bullitt," have also been present on awards night.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cars and cinema - plenty of other movies never had the chance to be nominated, but still prominently featured automobiles.

Drivers may not have a vehicle worthy of Hollywood, but that's no excuse to treat it poorly. Regular auto maintenance can ensure that a vehicle stays in tip-top shape.
