Study: Owning a car helps you get hitched

People who own their own car have a slightly better chance of getting married, according to a recent study published in the American Journal of Sociology.

The research found that those who own a car or other significant assets had a better chance of tying the knot. Previous studies have linked marriage with factors like education or current earnings, but few had looked at the effect of the assets people owned.

Owning a car turns out to be one of the best attractors, especially for males. Men who owned their own car were 2.6 percent likelier to get married, while other financial assets only upped the chances by 1.5 percent. Women were also more likely to get hitched in both cases, but at a lower rate.

Having a car may very well make you a bit more attractive to potential mates. However, nobody wants to go on a date in a bucket of bolts that's barely getting to the destination in one piece. Before you go out, take your car to an auto maintenance expert and ensure that you replace any worn tires and get an oil change. It could ensure that you don't scare off Mrs. Right or Prince Charming when the time comes.
