New Hampshire has some of the more beautiful natural scenery in New England, and many of it can be seen from the open road. According to Travel Guide of America, one of the better byways is Route 16 in northern New Hampshire, as it offers access to a number of worthy sites.

Route 16 is located near the Maine border and services several small towns in the area, including the popular North Conway shopping outlets. Once you've filled up your bags with discounted clothing, take a trip to the northern parts of this road and explore nature.

There's a lot to see and do on Route 16, not the least of which is Thirteen Mile Woods. This park is great for hiking and nature photography, offering visitors plenty of stunning scenery. It's also easy to visit Mount Washington, which you can opt to drive or hike up.

Although parts of Route 16 are pretty busy, most of it is remote. That means drivers should take care of their auto maintenance beforehand, as nobody wants to be stuck putting new tires on a car in the middle of the woods.
