The new Mercedes SLK is more confident than ever

1/14/2011

Official photographs of Mercedes-Benz's 2012 SLK made its way to the press recently and it's looking sleek and sexy, reports AutoWeek.

Planned for a North American release in the summer, this two-seat convertible has gotten a makeover that includes fuel economy technology, electronic steering and more interior space.

Greg Kable, an AutoWeek reporter, says the car is more "confident than its strong-selling predecessor" thanks to a tighter surface and obvious creases in the body. Also on the exterior are angled headlights, custom-style vents on the front fenders and a square trunk. The SLK still has a retractable hard-cover roof as well.

Inside, the switchgear has been updated, but much of the rest is based of the SLS, which had round vents and trimmings. A three-spoked steering wheels adds a contemporary touch to the already very modern car.

One of the best features is the "Airscarf" system that allows passengers in the back seat to get more heat when the top is down.

Mercedes' executives hope the stylized and new version of the SLK will attract people who drive Audi TT Roadsters, BMW Z4s and Porsche Boxsters.
