Shelbys hit the auction block

Carroll Shelby was a true pioneer in the auto industry, and despite his recent death, his legacy will live on in the numerous products that bear his name. Shelby's penchant for power and pony cars was so well-known that his name eventually became a brand unto itself, included in the moniker of many a classic car.

Now, a number of those models will be hitting the auction block. Leake Auction Company recently announced a Shelby-exclusive auction scheduled for June 8-10 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Both modern and classic cars will be up for sale, ranging from a 1968 Shelby GT500 Fastback to a much more recent 2011 Shelby GT500.

"Like everyone in the automotive industry, we were saddened by the death of Mr. Shelby," said Richard Sevenoaks, president of Leake Auction Company. "Carroll Shelby transcends generations and his name is synonymous with muscle cars. There is not a guy out there who does not lust after a Shelby."

There's no doubt that owning a Shelby-branded Mustang is a rare treat for car owners, so those lucky enough to have one of these models should be sure to take good care of it by keeping up with scheduled maintenance.
