The Toyota unintended acceleration scandal that dominated much of the automotive headlines last year has been essentially forgotten about since it was found that driver error and not Toyota was responsible for the accidents. However, one group isn't quite satisfied with that explanation, reports The Detroit News.

Safety Research & Strategies Inc., a Massachusetts-based auto safety group, says that it is suing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under the Freedom of Information act, as the NHTSA has denied the group access to a report filed in conjunction with the investigation into the issue. The auto safety group has worked in the past with attorneys that file class-action suits against automakers for safety issues.

"[The NHTSA's] numerous investigations into Toyota unintended acceleration have been characterized by continued secrecy, preventing a full accounting of their activities and the complete replication of their analyses by independent parties," said Sean Kane, president and founder of the group.
