Recall on Mitsubishi electric car for faulty airbags

Mitsubishi is recalling select 2012 i-MiEV electric cars after identifying a problem with the airbag that may prevent it from deploying correctly in a collision. The motor company discovered a problem between the airbag sensors and the vehicles' self-diagnostic software that may cause front and side airbags to deactivate. Following through on recall repairs in addition to maintaining scheduled maintenance is key to keeping a vehicle in top condition.

In the U.S., 261 vehicles are affected and 49 in Canada. Vehicles manufactured between November 4, 2011 and December 22, 2011 are under recall. Mitsubishi will notify owners to have local dealers replace the affected systems free of charge.

The i-MiEV was released in the U.S. in 2011, according to Mitsubishi. The car is ranked as the greenest vehicle of 2012 by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. With the current market trend to purchase fuel efficient and alternative energy vehicles, the i-MiEV has been the choice of many ecologically and financially minded individuals. The car features six airbags as part of an advanced airbag system to help protect the head in accidents originating from nearly any direction.
