Nissan believes that it will break the monthly sales record for the Leaf in June, as it begins to offer the electric vehicle in more markets around the country. The Japanese automaker says it is on track to sell more than 1,500 Leafs this month, which would beat the previous high water mark of 1,142, set last month in May. That was the first time Nissan sold more than 1,000 units in a single month. The spike in sales allowed Nissan to overtake the Chevrolet Volt as the best-selling electric vehicle for the year so far - although only by 17 vehicles.Nissan looks to be building on that lead with the strong sales and interest for the month. The automaker is expanding the areas where the Leaf is available, and also recently launched a new advertising campaign."We're going to have 1,500 cars delivered in the month of June, which is going to be the largest amount we've delivered in the United States," Carlos Ghosn, chief executive officer of Nissan, told Bloomberg.Ghosn said that some customers, who signed up in April 2010 to purchase the vehicle, were disappointed by the slow rollout of the car thus far."This should help, a little bit, restart the enthusiasm," Ghosn told the news source. "The last thing we want to do is frustrate [our customers]."
