NBA player slam dunks while jumping over a car

2/24/2011

Don't try this at home, kids. During the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers made a basket... by jumping over a Kia Optima, reports the Wall Street Journal.

That's right, the Kia Optima has been immortalized in sports pop culture thanks to the basketball star's smooth moves over the hood of the car.

As Griffin jumped over the hood, he caught an alley-oop thrown from the car's sunroof by teammate Baron Davis and then slammed it home, according to USA Today. It was wild! It was crazy! It was... actually kind of bizarre.

Anyway, Kia is going to be raking in the dough now, thanks to the NBA's commercial importance in America. Much like the way Larry Bird and Michael Jordan did McDonald's, Blake Griffin has now done Kia.

"It's the kind of lasting impression car companies and other advertisers find more and more elusive," said the Wall Street Journal.

SB Nation reported that Griffin made the slam dunk as a choir sang R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." Geez, talk about planning a good shot. Griffin, of course, won the contest.
