Leno details buying his McLaren

When it comes to celebrity car enthusiasts, it's hard to top Jay Leno. The talk show host owns some of the rarest vehicles in the world, dating all the way back to the invention of the automobile. In fact, when the team behind the recent video game L.A. Noire wanted some accurate vehicles for their 1930's setting, they called up Leno and he took him out to his garage.

Still, it's not all old cars for the chin-gifted comedian. Leno recently wrote a guest piece for Wired detailing his experience of buying a McLaren MP4-12C.

Leno starts off by saying he liked dealing with the McLaren people, explaining that many Italian supercar salespeople will first pretend that the car is unavailable or on back order. We agree: it's really rough buying a Ferrari these days.

The McLaren folks, on the other hand, simply named a price and Leno paid it. According to the comedian, they were also honest about what added features were necessary and which were just filler.

Finally, Leno defends the styling of the vehicle, which has come under fire from some car enthusiasts. Though understated, Leno describes the car as "the bookish woman who takes her glasses off and lets her hair down and you realize she’s stunningly attractive." That's one way to put it.

Ah, the world of buying insanely-priced supercars. It's something most of us will never experience, but at least Leno is nice enough to give us a peek.
