Kyle Busch answers for speeding ticket in court

8/29/2011

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was summoned to court a week ago to answer for charges that he was driving 128-mph when he was pulled over for speeding. Busch was behind the wheel of a Lexus LFA supercar, which at the time was one of less than 100 in the world.

That led to an interesting defense from Busch's attorney, Cliff Homesly, who pointed out that the car simply begged to be driven, according to the Virginian Pilot.

"Homesley began his defense by showing the judge a picture of the Lexus LFA that Busch was given the chance to drive for a day as racer for Toyota," writes the Pilot. "Homesley noted that there were only 87 made at the time and they were all hand built in Japan. He read from Car & Driver's review about how the LFA 'has a seductive shape' and that 'the cockpit swallows you up like a hot dog in a leather and carbon-fiber bun.''

The lawyer also pointed out that Busch's NASCAR background meant he had control of the car at all times and did not endanger anyone.

In the end, the gambit paid off - Busch's license was suspended for a scant 45 days, compared to the months or years he could have faced for such a violation.

Whether you've got a rare supercar on your hands or you just happen to like the car that your drive, vehicle inspections and tune-ups are critical to keeping them in tip-top shape.
