South Korean automaker Hyundai says it wants to reduce its reliance on fleet sales this year while improving retail sales by 100,000 vehicles, reports Automotive News. All automakers sell cars in bulk to rental car companies and other sources, and this can be an easy way to increase sales figures. However, the profits are much thinner on these vehicles than selling at retail price, which is why companies try to avoid relying too heavily on fleet sales.Hyundai CEO John Krafcik told the news source that the company plans on selling just 32,000 cars through fleet sales this year, and the brand has also set a goal of increasing its retail business by 100,000 units. New vehicles like the Azera, Elantra Coupe and Santa Fe will help the automaker reach that milestone. Overall, Hyundai is aiming for a 10 percent year-on-year sales increase.Drivers looking to buy a new Hyundai or any other vehicle should be sure that their current car is in top shape. Regular auto maintenance can help detect any necessary car repairs and improve the value of a trade-in.
