Honda to debut new HondaLink on 2013 Accord

Honda has unveiled its new cloud-based infotainment system, HondaLink, which will make its debut on the 2013 Accord, reports Autoblog.

By all accounts, Honda has been lagging behind competitors like Toyota and Ford when it comes to in-car connectivity, but HondaLink looks the change all that. The system uses the driver's smartphone internet connection to stream entertainment from the web.

The system's centerpiece is Aha Radio, a digital music content service that is fully customizable by the user. Drivers will be able to stream the songs they like directly through the car's audio system. The radio also includes non-music content, such as news stations and podcasts.

"HondaLink will enable customers to put away their phone and still stay connected to the people, music and media they love," said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda. "By creating an intuitive and customizable user interface, HondaLink allows drivers to access digital content as easily as choosing a radio station."

HondaLink offers a number of other features, such as Facebook, Twitter and personalized recommendations for nearby hotspots through Yelp. Overall, the system does not offer any truly revolutionary features, but should put the automaker on par with its rivals in the connectivity arena.

Drivers hoping to trade up to an internet-connected car should make sure their current model is in top shape by taking care of any nagging auto repairs and vehicle maintenance.
