There are plenty of great restaurants all throughout America, but those who are planning on taking a road trip will likely not want to travel too far off the highway just to find some food. At the same time, savvy drivers can definitely eat better than if they stuck solely to chain restaurants and fast food. The Daily Meal recently took a look at some of the best roadside restaurants in the country, highlighting some famous spots along well-traveled roads. For example, there's the La Super-Rica Tacqueria in California, which is just off the Pacific Coast Highway. This particular Mexican food spot is a favorite of famed chef Julia Child.Route 66 has a great restaurant and tourist attraction all in one. Pop's in Oklahoma is a converted gas station that serves diner food. It also features a 66-foot tall soda bottle, so you'll know it when you see it.This is just the beginning when it comes to great roadside restaurants, but then again half the fun of a driving vacation is getting out and exploring. Before you head out on any serious road trip, be sure to take care of any auto maintenance that your vehicle needs. It's also a good idea to put on new tires, as a flat could really derail a fun trip in a hurry.
