Females turn to blogs to get info about car purchases

10/17/2011

While there's a stereotype out there that women are not as in tuned when it comes to everything auto, a new survey finds that females tend to get more excited about purchasing a new car once they've done their research.

Presented during the JD Power & Associates Annual Symposium, BlogHer, Inc. found that women who got advice from blogs and social media about cars reported an excitement level increase in the double digits. The survey found that there was a 13 percentage point increase in excitement for women who looked at blogs before purchasing and a 12 percentage point rise for those who turned to social networks for advice.

Another interesting finding was that the car brand's website itself was dead last in the women's influences when it came to purchasing a vehicle.

"We see a huge opportunity for auto manufacturers to indeed 'Put her in the driver's seat' and let her buying preferences re-shape how the automotive community reaches the powerful women's market," said Elisa Camahort Page, co-founder and COO of BlogHer, Inc.

Of course, women may also want to do some research on the cars they already have. Looking into such aspects as tire deals and radiator service may help females stay on top of typical auto maintenance.
