"Fast & Furious 6" will open this weekend, and moviegoers are expected to turn out in full force to get a glimpse of the actions - and cars - in the film. Like its predecessors, "Fast & Furious 6" relied on real crashes and destruction to set the movie apart from other high-octane blockbusters, and director Justin Lin used as little visual effects as possible to make the action in the film more intense.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the sixth installment of the hit franchise destroyed between 300 and 400 cars. Some of the automobiles that were wrecked include rides like the 2012 Dodge Charger, 2008 BMW M5 and a 1969 Ford Mustang. Many of these cars were crushed beyond what any auto repair can do to fix it - think getting run over by tanks, falling from buildings and flying across freeways.
"I can tell you all the actual crash and destruction of vehicles is real," Dennis McCarthy, the film's car coordinator, told The New York Daily News. "That's very rare. And I think that's what keeps the 'Fast & Furious' franchise above all others, they keep it real."
In the end, millions of dollars were spent on vehicles destroyed in the movie.
