Custom DeLorean Electric and gas-powered cars to be available in 2013

DeLoreans may be most famously associated with the Back to the Future trilogy, and those who grew up loving the movies and the cars can soon get their own DeLorean. DMC, the once-defunct company, is back and will soon be offering custom-built DMC Classic and DeLorean Electric vehicles. The cars debuted at the New York Auto Show last week.

Many drivers have voiced their desire to own their own DeLorean, whether they have fantasies about time travel or just really want the car to match their Marty McFly costume. Either way, if they choose to go this route, DMC boasts their vehicles will be far more affordable than other custom models. However, DeLorean fanatics are still looking at a rough estimate of $95,000 when the vehicle becomes available in 2013.

Both versions of the car will feature the iconic gullwing doors and stainless steel body. The standard gasoline-powered engine will be a 2.8-liter V6 that generates 195 horsepower. If you don't think that'll be enough to get you to 88 mph in time, you can upgrade to the 235-hp supercharged engine. The DeLorean Electric's fixed gear, single speed motor is capable of 260 hp and lasts more than 100 miles on a single charge.

Whether you want an electric or gas-powered DeLorean, bear in mind that the car repair and auto maintenance costs are likely to be pricey, since they are custom-built vehicles.
