Chrysler will reportedly be killing off two of its models, the Chrysler Town & Country and Jeep Compass, according to The Detroit Free Press.

Minivans have fallen out of style with the American public, and Chrysler currently sells two - the Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan. According to the news source, the Town & Country is the model that's on the chopping block, with plans to continue and redesign the Grand Caravan for modern customers. Chrysler is credited with inventing the minivan, and the Town & Country has been an iconic model for years. Still, it's unlikely that the name will be retired completely.

"It's likely that they are not going to kill the name off," automotive analyst Dave Sullivan of AutoPacific told the news source. "A crossover vehicle could easily come back with that name."

Meanwhile, the Compass is also highly similar to another product in Chrysler's lineup, the Jeep Patriot. In fact, the Compass and Patriot are built on similar platform, have similar prices and only minor styling differences. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne plans to phase out the Compass in favor of the Patriot by 2014.

Drivers who own a Compass or Town & Country will likely now be in possession of the last few models of these particular vehicles. Those who want to preserve these cars should be sure to keep up with scheduled maintenance.
