Automakers compete in just about every segment, but one that many drivers don't pay attention to is police cars. All the domestic automakers offer police vehicles, and they compete for police departments to choose their designs over the competition.Ford recently scored a big victory when the Chicago Police Department chose its new Taurus Police Interceptor model, reports USA Today. The Taurus police car competes head to head with Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Caprice models across the country. The Taurus model has replaced the classic Crown Victoria that was made for years. It's not a huge surprise that the Chicago police chose Ford, as the factory that makes the car is located in Illinois. The Charger is made in America as well, but General Motors actually imports the Caprice all the way from Australia."We are pleased and proud Chicago has decided to purchase Ford's Police Interceptor vehicles," said Ken Czubay, a Ford vice president. "Ford has been the police pursuit vehicle market leader for 15 years, and we know these all-new vehicles can handle the rigors of police work."Police departments have to pay close attention to their auto maintenance to keep the fleet in working order. Drivers should put that same type of care into their own vehicles, making sure to get oil changes and tune-ups regularly.
