Bruce Springsteen auctioning off classic Chevy Bel Air that inspired "Born to Run"

Modern celebs seem to go through cars like Lindsey Lohan goes through lawyers, so when a star holds on to a classic car for a long time, it tends to mean something. Rock fans, car enthusiasts and the entire state of New Jersey will clamor to see what all that fuss is about later this month, when rock legend Bruce Springsteen puts his classic 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air up for auction.

Part of the "Gotta Have It" celebrity memorabilia auction, the vehicle is in near mint condition with restored fenders, vintage trim, lights and hardware, as well as the cherry flame accents that gearheads and collectors have come to expect from classic Chevys.

Prospective buyers, who can check out the car for themselves at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, will be happy to hear that the current owner has overhauled the mechanical and electrical systems, dropped a new custom-built GM 350 engine into it and included Springsteen's original title, tag and insurance card in the listing.

The vehicle was allegedly the first car Springsteen ever owned, and was said to be the inspiration to a number of the Boss's biggest hits including "Backstreets," "Thunder Road" and "Born to Run."
