BMW will unveil its new electric 1-Series at the Geneva motor show in March, reports AutoWeek.com.The automaker will build 1,000 of the two-door coupé vehicles, which are planned for release in North America. An electric motor in the back of the vehicle on the axle assembly line and an electronic control package in the cargo hold of the truck will make up the powertrain.Energy is storied in three different places with lithium-ion batteries - one under the hood, another in the center line of the transmission tunnel and a third beneath the rear seats. The car has a maximum 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, accelerating to 37 mph in 4.5 seconds and 62 mph in 9.0 seconds. To preserve battery, the vehicle can not surpass the 90 mph mark.
