Gas prices continue to escalate across the country, and many motorists are cutting back on other expenses to offset the increased cost of travel. As of March 15, AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report indicates the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was about $3.82, and some states like New York and California are seeing prices between $3.91 and $4.45.A recent study conducted by CouponCabin.com found that drivers are taking a number of different approaches to ease the strain on their wallets caused by higher fuel prices. Roughly 70 percent of respondents said they are dining out less frequently, and 64 percent are spending less on entertainment like movies and concerts."For many Americans who are just getting back on their feet, rising gas prices can be a tough financial hurdle," said Jackie Warrick, chief savings officer for CouponCabin.com. "In addition to making basic lifestyle choices to afford gasoline, 75 percent of adults are making changes to their driving habits to lessen the blow to their wallet."One thing drivers should not cut back on is car maintenance. Not only can putting off regular tuneups lead to more expensive problems down the road, but it can also adversely affect fuel economy. Oil changes and ensuring your tires have the correct air pressure can go a long way to improving a vehicle's fuel efficiency.
