Acura shows off "Avengers" SUV at New York Auto Show

4/6/2012

Acura signed an agreement with Marvel several years ago to ensure that the Japanese automaker's luxury vehicles were prominently featured in all upcoming superhero movies. The cars were already glimpsed in both "Thor" and "Captain America," and it looks like the trend will be continuing with "The Avengers," reports Autoblog.

In the film, the vehicles are primarily driven by agents of "S.H.I.E.L.D.," a fictitious government organization that assists the superheroes. Among highly-advanced pieces of weaponry like a helicarrier, the group's fleet boasts a number of specially-modified Acura MDX SUVs.

Honda brought the vehicles to the New York Auto Show to give visitors a glimpse of what they'll see on the silver screen. The organization jokes that car features a palladium-powered titanium engine, nine-speed transmission and diamond quartz brakes in its special "Sentinel Package." The estimated cost of this hypothetical Acura? Six million dollars each.

Photos from the set also show that billionaire Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man, will also be driving a heavily-modified Acura NSX when he's not flying around saving the world.

Nobody wants to think about the auto maintenance costs of a $6 million dollar engine, but fortunately non-superpowered folk will be paying much less for their car repairs.
