The Romantic Road in Germany might sound like a tacky tourist-trap, but it's not - it's one of the most beautiful drives in the world.

As drivers take their 205-mile journey through Bavaria (a region in Germany that's known for its scenic vistas and medieval castles), they'll pass gorgeous architecture preserved from a thousand years ago, great food served in medieval-style pubs and quaint cobblestone streets.

"It gives many of Europe's more historic cities a serious run for their money," states the Huffington Post.

The road begins in Würzburg and winds south to Füssen, a ski resort village that could have been the set for a James Bond film.

Towns worth noting are Dinkelsbühl and Rothenburg od der Tauber, which both look as if they came out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

It's the drive into Füssen that's the best part, however, reports the news source. And it's not just because of Neuschwanstein, which is nicknamed "The Real Cinderella Castle" by Lonely Planet. The peaks that soar into the sky here (the first hint of drivers reaching the Swiss Alps) are simply magnificent.
