More than 3 million used cars sold in March

March may have been a strong month for the sale of new cars, but used automobiles also posted high numbers. According to CNW Research, March was the best month for used car sales since 2002. More than 3 million pre-owned automobiles were sold in the month, marking an 11 percent increase over the same month last year, Auto Remarketing reports.

Drivers are turning to private owners and dealers when shopping for a used car. Franchised dealers saw their pre-owned auto sales grow by more than 17 percent, while independent stores boosted their sales by 8 percent, the news source reports.

Anyone purchasing a used car should take the proper steps to make sure the vehicle is safe for the roads. Taking it to an auto repair franchise for a tune up is the best bet, as professionals will know what to look for when it comes to surveying a pre-owned vehicle.

Sales were strong throughout the month, and the auto industry benefited from increased numbers for both new and used vehicles, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. While used cars have been the more popular option for some time, growing confidence in the auto industry inspired some drivers to go all in on new models.
