More people ready to drive this holiday season

The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and that fact has many revelers organizing their travel plans. Whether they are running around town in search of items that will make their home a more festive setting for a gathering or attempting to find the perfect flight for their travels, there is a lot of work that goes into putting together these holiday plans. This fall, however, many will likely be forgoing air travel in favor of a road trip, which may make their adventures a bit easier to plan.

Driving may be considerably cheaper
According to The Wall Street Journal, the average price of a domestic flight during the week of Thanksgiving increased almost 10 percent from the same time last year. That jump has left many families searching for more affordable ways of getting around for the holidays, and driving to a destination is quickly becoming a popular option.

"With no relief in sight for escalating airfares, and gas prices dropping below $3 per gallon in some parts of the country, more and more travelers are realizing the economic and hassle-free benefits of driving to their holiday destination," said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council. "Going by car offers a number of advantages over flying, and since a family of four can travel 1,000 miles round-trip by car for about the cost of one airline ticket, driving is the sensible option."

The benefits of driving
Travelers are choosing to drive instead of fly this holiday season for more reasons than just the price. Driving also allows motorists to be more comfortable, as there is more legroom and space to stretch out. They also can avoid sitting next to strangers or losing time because of flight delays and cancellations. Add in the convenience factor, which permits drivers to create their own schedule and select pit stops, and you have a viable and appealing way of getting around during the holidays.

The Car Care Council recommends anyone taking an extended road trip for the holidays get an auto tune up before beginning their travels. This vehicle maintenance can provide drivers with the peace of mind they need for the trip while also making sure there are no safety issues plaguing an automobile. Professionals at an auto repair franchise are more than capable of examining a vehicle and offering sound advice, so taking a car into one of these facilities is a smart decision for any holiday traveler.
